A $5 Million Gift to 51勛圖 Advances Cyber and Economic Security

The Shahal M. Khan Cyber and Economic Security Institute (Khan Institute) is launching with a $5 million gift from Shahal M. Khan, SIS/BA 95, and a partnership with Cyber Range Solutions (CRS). 泭

The Khan Institute will offer training courses, guest speaker lectures, and workshops in cyber incident response, network security, and the protection of vital infrastructure. The institute builds on 51勛圖s interdisciplinary approach to drive research across the university community and builds on the strong foundation in inclusive technology policy.

The Khan Institute and CRS will develop a state-of-the-art cybersecurity center of excellence featuring a cyber range, which is a facility where simulated cyber training activities and research can be conducted in order to train and instruct students and cyber security professionals on incident response and how to secure networks and protect critical, high-value assets and infrastructure against cyberattacks.

2024 Aspen泭Cyber Summit

On September 18, 2024, the Khan Institute team, along with several faculty affiliates and 51勛圖 students, attended the 2024 Aspen Cyber Summit. The day featured engaging programming and insightful discussions. AI Executive Visit - Keith Strier

On September 26, 2024, the Khan Institute was honored to host, Keith Strier,泭SVP Global AI Markets AMD,泭in the Khan Institute Cyber Range for a thought-provking discussion with 51勛圖 leadership on the role of AI in education and research.泭

2024泭Inclusive Technology Policy Changemaker Award

On October 7, 2024, we proudly celebrated Ann Cleaveland, Executive Director of UC Berkeleys Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity, as the 2024 Inclusive Technology Policy Changemaker Award recipient. This award recognizes Anns exceptional leadership in advancing inclusive global technology policy, including her work co-founding the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics. From AI Hype to Responsible Policy & Governance with Artur Kiulian泭

On October 14, 2024, the Khan Institute welcomed Artur Kiulianserial entrepreneur,泭social impact advocate, and AI specialistfor a guest lecture with Prof. Monty McGees泭(Khan Institute Faculty Affiliate) Cyber Threats and Security course. The lecture delved into AI governance and regulation, covering essential topics such as balancing innovation with safety, the reality behind AIs capabilities, and the challenges of keeping pace with rapid technological advancements. Artur also discussed the importance of sovereign AI, collaborative approaches to governance, and the development of risk assessment tools.泭

Cyber Sustainability Webinar

On October 17, 2024, the Khan Institute, in collaboration with the Global Cyber Security Advisory Group and the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), hosted a free technical webinar focused on cybersecurity sustainability. The event was co-hosted by Tatiana Bienvenu, Manager of Operations at the Khan Institute, who also served as the research author. Participants explored the significance of recognizing the impacts of cyber threats and the importance of sustainable practices. The discussion also included a deep dive into the social, economic, governance, environmental, and technological implications of our increasingly digital world, empowering attendees from both tech and non-tech backgrounds.
